Traffic cases heard in Division 14 are brought by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol and heard on the fourth floor of 201 Poplar Avenue. With the exception of Shelby County holidays, cases are generally scheduled daily at 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m.
Online Dispute Resolution: Some traffic tickets, such as non-moving violations and speeding tickets less than 25 mph over the limit, now may be eligible to be resolved without defendants being present in Court. Using our new Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) system, defendants can enter their ticket information, upload relevant supporting documentation, and receive emails about their cases prior to their traffic court date. Prosecutors will review the cases, and possibly even resolve them, without the defendants ever reporting to Court. To see if your case is eligible for the ODR system, please visit https://onlinecasereview.powerappsportals.us/.
Driver's License Information: For citizens who need or are planning to take the Tennessee Driver's License test, a comprehensive Driver License Manual can be found at https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/safety/documents/DL_Manual.pdf and a study guide is also available in the City Court Clerk's Office located at 201 Poplar Avenue or click here.
Driving School Certificates: Defendants who have completed Defensive Driving School and are unable to attend Court have the option to email their certificate to the Court no sooner than two weeks prior to their court date to SCTraffic@shelbycountytn.gov. Defendants who are unable to attend Court on their scheduled court date may also send an email to the address above. All emails must include the defendant's full name, assigned court date, ticket number and eight-digit case number, if known.
